One of my clients had talked about how she plans to collect one to two recipes from each of her siblings and will put a few photos of them alongside those recipes and then order enough copies to give each of them one as a gift. She's also giving it to her nieces who don't have families of their own yet, and she felt it was important to do this so that they would have it and could also pass it down when the time came.
My grandmother was such a great cook and as a kid I loved being able to help her in the kitchen and being the first to sample the food she cooked. I would've loved a cookbook of her recipes so that I could have shared it with my family. But since she is no longer with us, and her recipes were never written down, I will be starting a new collection of family recipes. As we gather over Thanksgiving, I will be collecting recipes from my mom and my aunts to start this new family cookbook because when my daughters are older, I want them to have this piece of their heritage live on and celebrated with their families.
